“Rest in Chaos”

Rest in Chaos was completed in January 2026, and is a piece I started working on in the final months of 2025. A friend asked me one day if I’d paint the Jolly Roger for him, of course I said yes. I had an initial vision, but wasn’t sure if the flag should be on the ship, what color the sky should be, what. After thinking about my friend – and where he was at in his life and the things he’d gone through, I started thinking of something that reflected a little rebelliousness, but also something calm. I also visioned a purple, stormy sky – but as I started painting, the other colors just kind of came out. As is common, in all my work, I just started following where the painting was taking me. The colors changed, the sea began to be calmer, and the flag became more tattered as a reflection of resiliency after battle. Each day I worked on it, I loved it more. To date, this is one of my favorites of the work I’ve done over the past several years. This is an example of how a beginning concept, forms to fit the personality for whom it was created. Truly custom!
